Oct 10 Issues Breakfast Celebrates Malala with Internatl Activist: The Courage to Do Good

The LWV-LM Invites You to Our October 10 Issues Breakfast

The Courage to Do Good

Speaker: Connie Schneider

christineschneider

2014 Fletcher (Tufts) Women’s Leadership Award recipient
for her international work with vulnerable populations in Afghanistan, Chad, Syria and Sudan

In October, our local community is celebrating “One Book-One Mamaroneck” by reading I am Malala, the story of a Pakistani girl attacked by the Taliban because of her support of girls’ education.

Our speaker will draw on a decade of working with organizations such as the European Union, the United Nations and the Red Cross in conflict areas around the world.  Her discussion will reflect on the difficult choices encountered by aid workers and others working in crisis zones when confronted with clear needs, contrasted with the real risk of incurring serious harm. She will share anecdotes from Afghanistan, Chad, Syria and Sudan, also reflecting on her experiences with the School of Leadership Afghanistan (SOLA), which  runs the country’s first multi-ethnic girls’ boarding school.
