In 2019, the LWVLM paid for two Mamaroneck High School students to attend an LWV annual event in Albany. One of the students forwarded the following thoughts on his experience:
As a student interested in a future of government and politics I knew that the annual Students Inside Albany Conference would fascinate me. Prior to the conference, my concept of government (and my interest) was at the federal level. I had never really dug into the nitty-gritty of the local politics at the state level. The conference opened my eyes to the world of state government and I can confidently say that I learned an incredible amount. The conversations I had with my assemblyperson, Steve Otis, were overwhelmingly enlightening. It was interesting to hear the thoughts and opinions of someone who represents me and the issues I care about. Touring the capital building and seeing the senate chamber was also a memorable experience. I am incredibly grateful to have had this opportunity to experience our state government and advise any other student interested in a future of public service to sign up!
Thank you,
