Biographical statement:
I am happy to be a candidate endorsed by the Selection Committee for this year’s board election. My family has lived in the District since 1994 and my three daughters attended Mamaroneck schools from kindergarten through high school, with our youngest scheduled to graduate (virtually!) in June. Our experience has been great – my children have been able to take advantage of many innovative programs and have learned with inspiring teachers.
I began my professional career as a consultant with Accenture, learning the basics of analyzing issues and clear communication – to explain options, trade-offs, and conclusions. After almost 20 years at Accenture I left and enjoyed leadership positions in the media industry for children’s entertainment and publishing companies.
In the mid-2000s I joined a nonprofit board, which began my interest in changing my career. I became COO of 100Kin10, a nonprofit solving the shortage of STEM teachers in US schools, and am now an independent consultant working with publishing companies and nonprofits.
I have been active in my community as a volunteer for the District’s Enrollment Task Force, a frequent coach for recreational and travel sports teams, and on the board of Westchester Jewish Center and Education Through Music.
Why am I running:
My experience participating on the District’s Enrollment Task Force provided the spark for my interest in joining the board. I gained an appreciation for the work involved managing our schools by the superintendent and staff, and the passion and interest of my neighbors in supporting their efforts.
I also began to appreciate the complexity of the issues facing our district – beyond the ongoing enrollment questions – and the challenge of engaging all of the stakeholders (including students, parents, teachers, community members) in understanding and addressing those issues. My hope is that I can help in that process, and would also like the opportunity to serve the district that has provided such great experiences for my family.
I’m not planning on promoting any specific agenda or issue as a member of the board, other than continuing our community focus on the mission of the schools. I believe in the NY State School Boards Association’s definition of the board’s overarching responsibility – to make sure that schools are “flexible and responsive to the needs of the community.” I recognize the inherent challenges in this charge, particularly in this time of change and uncertainty. I believe that my experience and skills will allow me to make a positive contribution to the work of the board.
