Biographical Statement
I am one of two candidates, along with Rob Weisstuch, that have been endorsed by the School Board Selection Committee for a seat on the Mamaroneck School Board. I’m a lifelong community resident, a graduate of MHS and father of two MHS graduates. I most recently taught earth science at the Hommocks Middle School where I was on staff from 2002 through 2017. Prior to that role I was a real estate lawyer with The Bank of New York and Proskauer Rose et al. and was an environmental planner for the Westchester County Department of Planning.
I have served on many boards: as an elected member of the Board of Trustees for the Village of Mamaroneck, Chair of the Town of Mamaroneck Tri-Municipal Conservation Advisory Commission, Chair of the Mamaroneck Village Harbor & Coastal Zone Management Commission, Vice Chair for the Scarsdale Audubon Society and board member of LMC TV and Sound Shore Medical Center, among others. Currently I volunteer at the local libraries teaching qigong and other related practices.
Candidate Statement
My experience in a variety of different roles has given me the experience and skills to listen to people and define issues, conduct thorough research, think on my feet, engage in fruitful negotiations and find common sense solutions to problems. I have seen the opportunities and road blocks in the schools through my own children’s experiences.
This is what I believe:
1. Public education is a vital institution.
2. It is important to ensure that each child reaches their highest potential by providing the best, most well rounded education with caring, expert guidance and supervision.
3. We must provide a curriculum that provides real world information and skills in addition to traditional academics.
4. The District must present options that allow the schools, and the students themselves, to explore areas that might be unfamiliar or challenging.
5. We must provide a system of equal opportunity for all students.
6. Parents and teachers are an integral part of providing and supporting student achievement.
7. I bring my education and experience to provide a different perspective to the School Board and have the knowledge, experience and time to provide positive change for the students, parents and teachers of the Mamaroneck School District.
