Biographical Statement
Over the past three years, I am proud to have served on the Board of Education. As a member of the Finance, Audit and Building & Grounds committees, I was able to utilize my professional background to advance the priorities of the District and improve the teaching environment for all our students.
My wife, Dana, and I moved our family to Larchmont 14 years ago. We have four children enrolled in the school district: Rafael (11th grade), Nina (10th), Tiago (9th), Mateo (6th).

Why are you running for the Mamaroneck School Board?
In partnership with Superintendent Sampson, the Board has implemented many new systems and processes at the District and I would like to continue the good work of seeing these projects through. Specifically, the data and technology systems which are now in place will provide teachers with real time data on student performance and enable earlier intervention when appropriate.
I am the product of a public school education. Like many families in our school district, my parents were working-class, immigrants who did not speak English and relied on the public schools to play a vital role in shaping their children’s character and influencing students’ aptitude. I believe that strong, diverse public schools are the lynchpin to developing successful communities.
Professionally, I lead the JLL Education & Nonprofit Advisory Practice. My experience involves: space utilization studies, financial analysis, negotiating with developers and municipalities, managing architects and contractors, budgeting, leasing/purchasing/selling buildings and land, developing buildings, etc. I am confident my professional experience will be directly relevant to helping solve many of the district’s space and real estate related issues, which are top of mind for so many in the community.
What is the biggest issue facing our schools and how can you help address it?
I believe the most important issue facing the District is providing rewarding pathways for all students. The diversity of our student body is one of the best, defining characteristics of our District and we need to ensure each student is engaged in a rewarding school experience which will prepare them to be strong, caring leaders in whichever path they choose to pursue – whether that’s college, a vocation or some other experience. Over the past two years, we have added more AP classes and other enrichment opportunities, we are beginning to reshape the senior internships program and looking to make culinary and other electives more robust to provide students with more choices.
Successful pathways must be built on a foundation of quality curriculum and data systems to ensure our teachers have the best tools at their disposal and to better track student outcomes. Over the past three years, we have overhauled the curriculum in the elementary and middle schools and have invested heavily in data and technology systems. Teachers are collaborating on best practices and utilizing the data tools to better track student performance and provide additional support sooner.

¿Por qué se postula para la Junta Escolar de Mamaroneck?
En colaboración con el Superintendente Sampson, la Junta ha implementado muchos sistemas y procesos nuevos en el Distrito, y me gustaría continuar el buen trabajo de llevar estos proyectos a término. Soy producto de una educación en escuelas públicas. Profesionalmente, dirijo la Práctica de Asesoría en Educación y Organizaciones Sin Fines de Lucro de JLL. Mi experiencia incluye: estudios de utilización del espacio, análisis financiero, negociación con desarrolladores y municipios, gestión de arquitectos y contratistas, elaboración de presupuestos, arrendamiento/compra/venta de edificios y terrenos, desarrollo inmobiliario, entre otros. Estoy convencido de que mi experiencia profesional será directamente relevante para ayudar a resolver muchos de los problemas de espacio e inmuebles del distrito, temas que son de gran importancia para tantos miembros de la comunidad.
¿Cuál es el mayor problema que enfrentan nuestras escuelas y cómo puede ayudar a abordarlo?
Creo que el problema más importante que enfrenta el Distrito es proporcionar caminos enriquecedores para todos los estudiantes. La diversidad de nuestro cuerpo estudiantil es una de las mejores y más definitorias características de nuestro Distrito, y debemos asegurarnos de que cada estudiante participe en una experiencia escolar enriquecedora que los prepare para ser líderes fuertes y comprometidos en el camino que elijan seguir, ya sea la universidad, una vocación u otra experiencia. Durante los últimos dos años, hemos añadido más clases de nivel avanzado (AP) y otras oportunidades de enriquecimiento; estamos comenzando a reformar el programa de pasantías para estudiantes de último año y buscamos fortalecer la cocina y otras materias electivas para brindar a los estudiantes más opciones.
Los caminos exitosos deben construirse sobre una base de currículo de calidad y sistemas de datos que garanticen que nuestros maestros tengan las mejores herramientas a su disposición y puedan hacer un mejor seguimiento de los resultados de los estudiantes.
